Illustration of an old website layout becoming a new one

An outdated website can make a capable business look difficult to deal with. But replacing every page without checking the existing site can also discard useful content, established URLs and Google visibility.

We approach redesigns by understanding what needs to change and what should be protected.

Start with the existing website

Before work begins, it helps to know which pages attract visitors, which enquiries matter and what people struggle to do. We look at navigation, mobile readability, content, forms and the technical setup. If Search Console data exists, it is worth checking which URLs already receive impressions or clicks.

A page may look old but still answer an important search. That content should not simply disappear when the design changes.

What a redesign can address

  • Confusing navigation and service information.
  • A mobile layout that's difficult to read or use.
  • An inconsistent appearance or outdated brand application.
  • Forms that fail, produce poor leads or ask for too much information.
  • Poor product organisation or awkward ecommerce checkout.
  • Excessive plugins, duplicated content or fragile page templates.
  • A site structure that makes future pages difficult to add.

Not every problem needs a full rebuild. Sometimes the right project is a focused improvement to a few important templates or pages.

Protect your existing Google visibility

We favour keeping useful existing URLs when possible. If a URL must change, the old path should usually redirect permanently to its relevant new equivalent. Internal links, canonicals and sitemaps then need to reflect the new structure.

Read the website redesign SEO checklist before launching a rebuilt site.

Design for the next few years

A redesign should account for future needs. Will the business add services, a product catalogue, payments or staff logins? Planning the structure now can reduce another redesign later, without forcing you to pay for all those features upfront.
